no stress distress

Typically, especially in the summer months, you can catch me in a t-shirt and some semblance of a bottom. For myself and many New Yorkers, it is an easy way to navigate around the city. Minimalistic, non-chalant about the sweat, and still moderately chic. I'm not going to get into any philosophical vibes about the importance of a white tee; that will come in a later post, lol. For now, enjoy these shots of me in a quintessential summer garment: the white tee.

For the distressed denim, these are a pair of BDG jeans in a slim-straight fit. I got them in 2008 at Urban Outfitters for like, $10. One thing you'll learn about me from the site is how to mix your high & low-end items and how to make them affective. I was just about over these jeans when I realized I hadn't found a distressed denim for the season. This was years ago. I pulled out my scissors and began to repurpose! I cut them myself and washed to get the fraying [I definitely will do a distressed denim tutorial soon]. Over the past few years, they have really worn in- holes have gotten more prominent, crotch patched, etc. They have become one of my go to summer essentials. You always need a distressed jean on-hand.

moments in omondi

I met a girl over a decade ago. She was a student at SCAD and we were both working at this boutique in Atlanta. We forged a friendship over our love for "Party in the U.S.A." and had fun doing carpool karaoke before it was TM'd. She used to make me the sickest mix CD's! Her name is Recho Omondi and now she is a full-fledged designer, making her mark in the world.

The sweater worn throughout is a piece from her a|w 2014 collection. It, along with her newest collection, is offered at www.rechoomondi.com. Her custom embroidered pullovers are taking the marketplace by storm! Solange Knowles has been an avid supporter of the brand - wearing to various events. Emily Weiss of Into the Gloss, Elaine Welteroth - EIC of Teen Vogue and a bevy of supportive editors and celebrities alike have been spotted also rocking the designs. The pullovers are etched with your choice of wording. You may opt to put your name, a colloquialism or any term of your choosing.

I've always admired her confidence in her ideals. She is deeply rooted in her Kenyan heritage while blending with her American upbringing. She is blazing a trail in the fashion industry by doing it her way. She has been vocal about creating and releasing her collections against the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week grain as the vibe has changed throughout the years. Designers are steadily clamoring to regain their footing in this constantly evolving fashion arena. Recho is not interested in walking in line with, but instead, forging her own lane. She is a forever inspiration to me and a great friend. Major snaps to OMONDI.
